I've never used the ignore. I have reported people who used threats and vulgar language towards me. I can pretty much take anything that someone posts and if it is irritating let it go in one ear and out the other. I come from a time when letting someone really get under your skin was a sign of weakness. We spent many hours getting into battles of wit. The ones who got upset the most were usually unarmed opponents who had to resort to violence, threats, and name calling. I have had run ins with mods where I'd like to unleash my arsenal of intellectual nukes and have taken out some of the smaller ones. But then you settle down and cool off and return to some degree of de'tente and go on. Now if we named the ignore button after a spell such as obliviate where we would not only not see their posts but remove all memory of them from our view -including when they were quoted - that would be cool. Yes I am a Harry Potter fan.

Not sure that the "ignore" function is worth much if you're continualy reminded that the person you're ignoring has made a post.

There's an old joke:

Artist to critic: "What do you think of my work?"
Critic to artist: "I don't."

I have only one person on my ignore list based on a couple of PM's that came off as kinda creepy at the time, but I could probably take him off because I don't think he uses the board anymore. There are a few people who made me consider adding to my list, one of whom has posted in this thread. Depending on the person it's either what they say that annoys me or how they write it. Depending on my mood and the subject of the thread, I'll either skip their post or take the time to read it for (hopefully) content or occasional amusement.

When I'm really lucky though, the person who drives me absolutely nuts everytime I see one of their posts will post non-stop for a month and a half and then is never heard from again. :cool2:

I don't have anyone on my ignore list, haven't ever used it in any forum. Agree completely with Jim Lapenta. And having someone mess with you on a thread post requires your cooperation. I can see putting someone on ignore for PM's. As for personal attacks in threads, I'd think the mods would mitigate that.

Is there anywhere I can seek help for this?
