PADI membership renewal

I assume you mean the PADI Diving Society? The only PADI members are professionals ... Divemasters and Instructors. Our dues are alot higher than the Diving Society dues! I'm only a Diving Society member because I get it 'free' since I'm a PADI professional. Other than that, I too find it tough to see the value. I was not a member prior to becoming a Divemaster.

Since I only became a DM mid 2011, I don't qualify for the Diving Soc. magazine until January when I pay a full years dues to PADI! But I have picked up the mag at shops here and there. There better ones out there for sure.

I don't think I ever had a membership. I got lots of "join our club" letters but never bothered with any of them since I couldn't see any benefit. I spent my money on DAN insurance instead. Much better to have "peace of mind" than an advertisement ridden mag that I won't enjoy anyway.

Spend the dollars with DAN. Their magazine is quite good as well!

They're giving out water bottles now?I just got my piece of garbage bag in the mail today, same as last year's... the first one I got was decent and I've used it as a gym bag on occasion, but that one was actually fabric as opposed to the last 2 that I've gotten that are platic-y with handles that are too short. I got the coupon book a couple of weeks ago and thought it was pretty lame that I only have a month to use any of the coupons, not that any of them are good for me anyway. The magazine is full of ads but it's my "drool magazine". Alert Diver is more informative about just about everything.

Thanks for all the comments. My wife is a PADI Diving Society Member, and just asked me if she should renew. One quick search on SB found this thread, and the answer to her question. Since we just renewed DAN, I guess we will go water bottle shopping!

Thanks for this. I have been wondering whether to renew my membership (the non-Pro one) in PADI, I have similar feelings about the mag, and this reinforces my decision.

Too bad they are squandering an opportunity to have some USEFUL interaction with new divers.

To add to the mix, I like Dive Training magazine.

In reply to my own post, I finally got the magazine, but things were messed up & it took a while. No water bottle. I see now you get a PADI tote bag if you renew for 3 years. Since I get the free membership, maybe they'll send me the bag after 3 free years???
