Great trip report. I just came back from the Philippines as well and your photos are bringing back some great memories! I love your photos; you are very talented. I have a lot of work to do before I can get anywhere near what you're sharing! I'm also looking into trying a snoot on my next trip where macro opportunities present itself.

I'll have to get my act together and post some reports soon!

Thanks for sharing.

I am watching again the pictures you made in Cabilao and I think it's surprising, honestly I didn't think it is no nice

Why didn't you? Have you stayed on Cabilao -if so which resort- or just been on daytrip? I thought the coral reef on Cabilao was amazing .

I only know Cabilao is one of the spots to see, I've never been there. But I thought it was much less interesting than other places (at least this was my understanding). On the contrary it is more or less like Balicasag, Moalboal and Alona one of the places where to go

I'm heading out to Thailand for a liveaboard with some friends in late March/early April and his photos are making me want to check out the Visayas now.......I was looking for a place to go after the liveaboard and this might be a good option...Or I default and go back to Indo. Both can't be bad! :)

There might not be as much fish action as Balicasag (btw a whale shark has been around the jackfish school for a week a few days after I left, a pity I missed it) but defintely Cabilao has great reefscapes. I remember you asked about Anda which i did not recommend at all, I think Cabilao is worth a few days diving when you consider staying around Bohol, also it's very easy getting back to Cebu from there.
I do not find much interest anymore in Alona and although Moalboal is must see for the sardines and Pescador, I hope I goit myself understood about what is happening to Moalboal : schedule for only a day divng and stay away!

My trip this time will be focused on Malapascua, I will also spend some days in Bohol and precisely Balicasag
I left other places, among which Cabilao and Siquijor. Also Moalboal
One day I would like to see the Double Reef in Danajon bank, but I need to know exactly what kind of dive is that. I suspect it is quite technical and far from the skills I have now. Will get some info during this trip hopefully

From your pictures, I would say that compared to the Maldives these places have less fish and maybe less variety of big fish, but more macro and especially healthier and more colorful reef. The Maldives were heavily affected by the last passage of El Nino some years ago

I dived the Maldives a while ago (Some 15 years ago) for me it's only shark and rays, few corals, and lots of blue tooth triggerfish though not impressed with neither the variety nor the biomass of fish.
I'd reckon Balicasag has more fish than many spots in the Maldives, if you want to discuss fish mass then talk to me about Komodo and Raja Ampat  ...
