I have a question for everyone about these lights. I've only done a couple night dives so I am admittedly lacking in my light knowledge. I see one model that is a flood/spot light. The quoted lumens are pretty much for the flood mode with much less for the spot mode. There's another model that's like 50 bucks more that is only a spot light with the entire lumen rating for the spot light. It seems the more powerful spot light only would be better but would I be regretting not having the flood light mode available?

Flood light functionality I find useful for night diving. When I'm finning along, I like to switch my light to flood and look around and with my peripheral vision, catch more things that I want to look at.

I've done over 300 night dives here in southern California. I've used both the Sola 2500 spot/flood and the Sola Dive Pro 2000 (spot only). I prefer the Pro 2000. This thing is like a light saber and helps me identify objects far away. For example, if I'm looking for a particular object (small wreck or structure) at night, I'm more likely to find it with the Pro 2000. The beam is narrow and not so useful for photography but it is a big help navigating at night with limited visibility. One guy I dive with said he had "light envy" when I started using the Pro 2000.

OTOH, if I were diving at night where the visibility was huge (~100+ ft.)., I might go with the 2500 spot/flood. Where I dive, if we get 40+ ft. of viz people are celebrating in the parking lot.

If I get the combo light, I'll probably wish I had more power in the beam. If I get the Pro, I'll probably wonder how good the flood mode would look under certain situations. I'm leaning towards the Pro right now because as a beam it would have great power, probably would have a lot less particulate scattering, and hopefully I'm less likely to piss off or blind a dive buddy.
