On the bright side all the mossies froze this week....
Haha! The Aedes aegypti mosquito has adapted to colonize DC, and it gets somewhat colder there. Type of Mosquito that Carries Zika Virus Found in Washington, DC I think your local populations if just fine on its R&R break.

In other bone-chilling news, malaria was found widespread in US deer populations, once they knew to check for it. Doesn't transfer to humans, yet - and I really hope it doesn't make that jump. http://www.newsweek.com/malaria-parasite-found-nearly-one-four-white-tailed-deer-424344

Always a ray of sunshine, DD.....

Zika or no Zika, to me Dengue and Chikungunya are bad enough and sufficient reason to avoid getting bitten. FWIW, Sprays using picaridin are supposed to be just as effective as deet, and it is not a "plasticizer" (a solvent to plastics, coatings or sealant) and therefore will not damage plastic or synthetic materials like deet will.

So if you take deet, be careful with it around scuba gear, camera gear, etc. I have been using the picaridin.

And, like the man said, mosquitoes don't dive.

Caradonna has put together a nice, easy to read summary of information about the Zika Virus, see the link below.
