anyone have any pictures of tanks that were too pitted/rusted out inside to be salvaged? I'm trying to get a sense of right and left limits on this stuff.

thanks,
Mike

Depends on if its:
an isolated pit
pitting in a row/line (line corrosion)
all over deterioration
and lastly
Is it a 3AL, 3AA, or an exemption series tank?

All these limits are covered in a visual inspection course.

If there is visible / noticeable depth to a pit or clear material loss, I'd take it in to be checked or would have it checked before buying it. That's the criteria we generally use in the plant I work at to determine if we need to do NDE or measurements and then calculations to validate piping is ok.

What rust?
