HELP! Plaza Resort Bonaire Gets Mixed Reviews

Yes, it is. The 24/7 access started mid-July.

HELP! Plaza Resort Bonaire Gets Mixed Reviews

We were at Sand Dollar/BDA July 23-August 6. Yes, there was 24/7 access to both the gear room and to the tanks at the dock (both air and nitrox). They are investigating options for 24/7 access to the drive-up tanks. And of course, you can always grab tanks from the dock and haul them to the...

    Trip Report July 31 – August 7, 2011 Bonaire

We've never tried Wil's. This last trip, another family highly recommended it on our last day on the island. Unfortunately, Wil's was all booked with reservations for that night, and so we had to go elsewhere for dinner that night. Next trip, we'll stop by early in the week and make...

HELP! Plaza Resort Bonaire Gets Mixed Reviews

Maybe I'm just a "vacationer" and not a "diver", because I probably wouldn't go back to Plaza. For reference, we stayed there the first week of August 2010. I don't know if we had a renovated room or not. Probably we did, as the room itself seemed nice. However, for 3-4 days of our 7-day...

    Cayman Brac Trip Report/BRBR

We visited BRBR in October 2008 (1.5 weeks before Paloma). We dove Friday afternoon, because our Saturday flight was an evening (6:30 PM) flight to GC (where we spent another 5 days). So we rented a car Saturday morning, intending to sightsee all morning and afternoon. We ended up turning in...

    Questions on Upcoming Bonaire Trip

Actually, town was the place I generally was least likely to leave stuff in the vehicle. Some restaurants have parking right next to the restaurant, so your vehicle was still in sight. Those we would go to straight from a dive (drying off and putting on a T-shirt first!) For instance, El...

    Questions on Upcoming Bonaire Trip

No one bothers with the tanks. I don't know if a thermos would get bothered. Probably not, but who knows. We had 4 one-liter bottles of water. We'd keep them in the freezer. Take 2 with us to morning dives. After the first dive, they were half-melted. Fully-melted after the 2nd. So...

    Shore diving in bonaire

There are some dive sites only accessible by boat. All the ones on Klein Bonaire, for instance. A few on the main island too, such as Rappel (I still really want to do that one). And across from the marine park headquarters (I don't remember the dive site name, but it's south of Oil Slick and...

Bonaire shore diving made easy vs bonaire snorkeling guide

I haven't seen your other posts, so I don't know if this was a serious inquiry or tongue-in-cheek. So I'll answer as though it is serious. :dontknow: We have taken the Shore Diving Made Easy book with us on probably 80+ dives on Bonaire, and have not had it stolen. Nor anything else. *knock...

    Questions on Upcoming Bonaire Trip

SUV vs Pickup: Procedure with a pickup: Most pickups have a tank rack in the bed (if yours doesn't, ask for one!). So you can carry 4 tanks in the bed, without them rolling around or anything. Throw all your gear in the bed too. Cameras and dive lights stay in the cab with you while...

    Questions on Upcoming Bonaire Trip

I second the recommendation for AB Car Rental. We used them last trip (included with our Plaza package) and found them to be awesome. Great service, great hours, very friendly. I recommend the pickup instead of the SUV though. If you have your choice of dive ops (i.e. not a package)...

    Favorite restaurant on Bonaire

Cappricio's is our favorite for sure. Next trip, we'll stop in ahead of time and pick out a wine to be opened and ready for us at dinner time. Unbelievables would be second. Yum. As for the Tipsy Seagull, we never ate lunch or dinner there, but our breakfast was included in our Plaza...

Even more pictures and some comments from CCV

Yeah, L18 (simple point-and-shoot) with an Ikelite housing and Ikelite AF35 strobe. Phil apparently can't make up his mind whether he wants to get an advanced P&S or just risk the D300 underwater. Definitely a bit of a price jump there, as well as the risk of flooding the D300. But even in...

    First time in Honduras

Even if your credit card doesn't charge you, you will still have a 4% charge added to your actual bill for using credit cards (which goes to the Honduran banks). Since my card doesn't charge me, I didn't bring all that much cash with me last week. I got hit by the 4% surcharge PLUS since my card...

    Grand Cayman on Christmas Day

Just got back from Grand on Saturday. If your weather matches ours, pack a windbreaker and/or hoodie and jeans. And a wetsuit. It is definitely warmer than here in Cleveland! But not always warm enough to be comfy in shorts and T-shirts.

    Analyzer: Nitrox vs. CO

DD, I haven't gotten the paper copy yet - the link was in the email newsletter I got this weekend. By the way, thank you for all the info you provide on this topic. Both a CO monitor and an O2 monitor are on this year's wish list for Santa.

Well, after some more reading, the AquaSketch Minno is now on the Christmas list. Thanks ronbeau!!

    Wish List for Santa

Hmm, the AquaSketch seems like a nice concept. I don't think I'd want it as a wrist slate though, since I wear my dive computer on my left wrist. How well does it erase? That's always been my biggest beef with traditional slates - they never seem to erase very well.
