4/21 Breakwater Trailer Parking lost DIR knife and Neck Bioseal

Hey Andrew, I checked the boat. I didn't find anything. Was the knife a sawed off steak knife? Was the seal in anything? I didn't see anything on the ground around the trailer either. Hmmmm. Where did you see them last?

Two pairs DUI Rock Boots Size 5

I have two pairs of rockboots for sale. One slightly used pair for $45 plus shipping. One brand new pair, still in the pretty bag, $70 plus shipping. Both pair are men's size 5. It it helps, I wear a USA women's 6.5 to 7 shoe.

    Diver Accident 4/17/2011 Monterey

I will always remember Kristina as a bright enthusiastic happy person. A joy to be around. I am so sorry for her loss. My condolences to her family and especially her son, who she spoke of often. Dan and Dave are heroes in my book too. They both did everything right. I would feel lucky...

    An invaluable post

That post was good, but I liked the "Listen to your inner chicken" one he did as well. I can't find it again or I'd repost it here.

    Log book

I have 824 dives. I know that because I log every one of them. So does my husband, or rather I log them for him. It's not a paper log book though. I download them from our dive computers, then I type in notes. When we're on a trip, he takes notes with site names to match with the download...

    N Monastery 2/12

That looked like an excellent dive! Thanks for posting the video. I've never seen a shrimp like that before, and you're right you saw a lot of really cool nudibranchs!

Otter bay hood with/without neck skirt?

But I LIKE exhaling through my nose! :-) Kathy, mine is also custom fitted. It needed a hole. Possibly it's because I exhale through my nose. :D

Otter bay hood with/without neck skirt?

Mike, dive the hood first. If you have a problem, then puncture it. You'll feel less bad about it once it annoys you. Then, just put the hole above the spot where the annoying bubble was. I used a large roofing nail. It wasn't a big deal.

Otter bay hood with/without neck skirt?

I use the mash down on the top of the head method on hoods without holes, it works fine. OTOH, I put a hole in my Otter Bay 12ml hood. Right at where the highest point is when I'm in dive position. It works better than the hand mash method, since nothing builds up and become irritating. I...

Otter bay hood with/without neck skirt?

Mine doesn't have a skirt. It is an option, but I didn't get it. The straight neck even worked with my wetsuit, it was long enough that it sat right over the collar on the suit.

Otter bay hood with/without neck skirt?

Mike, I've had an Otter Bay hood with the drysuit neck since my open water. I even dove it with a wet suit. The neck is long enough that I don't get a draft. The hood does sometimes fill with air from exhalation underwater though. I put a nail hole in it as a vent. I love my hood!

    Purge masks

"The valve poppet is prone to warping, at any rate in a hot climate. It's not just a matter of keeping it clean. When I said they fail I meant they become unusable without replacing parts (and those parts are unavailable). How did your husband's non-purge masks fail?" I think the warping must...

    Purge masks

I have a mask with a purge. Bought for the same reason as the OP, for snorkeling prior to certification. I have 793 dives. It hasn't failed yet. It fits my face perfectly. I exhale through my nose occasionally and it's easier with the purge, although possible without one too. My husband...

    Spiny Lobster @ Breakwater

I've heard that they do, but the water is too cold for them to reproduce here. There have been other sightings at the breakwater wall for sure.

Anyone out here diving a Pinnacle Freedom / Freedom2?

My husband has one of those. He dives it about every weekend, but from a boat. He's had it for a year or two and it's been bone dry up until about a week ago. It's got a slight leak somewhere now, but we haven't found it yet. OTOH, the shoulder valve is in a truly lousy spot which makes it...

    Sea Nettles OUCH!

I still have welts from Saturday. :-( I've never used vinegar. In fact I don't use anything at all, and the pain seems to subside in around an hour as well. Possibly the vinegar isn't that effective.

Is it ok to ask to join a random group of divers on the spot?

Fred is an older guy with a small red pickup truck who is famous for handing out cards that say "dive buddy". He tends to ask women to partner him, but asks men too, and is generally thought to be a pervert. Although I don't know the details of his reputation, he did ask me to dive once and I...

    saturday dissapointment @ lobos

Ditto what Danno said, get out of the cove. There's lots of reasons for layers like that, one might be a thermocline. Usually deeper is better, but 30' isn't generally deep enough.
