San Diego in late March 2013

I took the course in the SF Bay Area (PADI dive shop). It consisted of one evening in the classroom, one morning in the pool and two shore dives all prior to heading to SD.

In San Diego for diving until Saturday.. Any suggestions?

Check out San Diego SCUBA Diving, Charter Boat Dives. Dive Trips, I used them a few weeks ago and they were great. But looking at their calendar, they won't have anything until Friday.

How do you get into the water from a liveaboard with your camera?

With the zodiacs that I have dove from, I have done it one of a couple ways. Either attach everything (camera and BC) to separate lines that allow the items to float in the water. I then get into the water and gear up. The second method involves a backroll while the camera is attached to the...

Photos up from 5 day Channel Islands trip on the Vision Aug. 12-17

I did my first liveaboard with Truth Aquatics' Vision this past July and it was fantastic! In the 2.5 days, we racked up 13 dives (Santa Catalina Island, Santa Barbara Island and Santa Cruz Island). I am already looking forward to going back but maybe next time doing the northwest section of the...

Dry suit - if money was no object!

If you are leaning towards a DUI dry suit and you happen to be near one of the upcoming DUI Demo Tour locations, you should check it out. 2012 DUI Demo Tour Participating Rally Dealers I personally use a ScubaPro Everdry4 dry suit and really enjoy it. It's nowhere near as expensive as a trilam...

    My videos from Monastery Beach

This is where I will be posting my videos from Monastery Beach -- both south and north shores. If I have the choice and conditions are favorable, I will go here all day and everyday! My dives will vary from kelp forest, canyon slope or shelf, lots of sand and eventually further in the deep. My...

My videos from Point Lobos SNR

When I first started diving Point Lobos, I was using the GoPro without any additional light source or filter. Soon after I did get myself a URPRO Cyan (CY) filter. A couple months later I got a Light & Motion Sola 1200 Video light. Then again, in Monterey while using that light the water will...

My videos from Point Lobos SNR

This is where I will be posting my videos from Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. My dives will vary from middle reef, hole in the wall, lone metridium and eventually further in the deep. See if you spot the various harbor seal, leopard shark and much more. My videos are taken with either my...

How do you carry your GoPro

I have my GoPro Hero2 mounted in the SRP Housing BlurFix & SRP Tray and I am using the Light and Motion Sola 1200 video light. I enjoy its simplicity!

Need info on GoPro resolution settings...

I bounce between two canon setups -- GoPro Hero2 HD as well as a Canon Rebel T2i. I enjoy the GoPro mainly for its simplicity. I don't enjoy spending the time cleaning and lubing o-rings on the Canon set. On that GoPro, I'm going with the 1080p @ 30fps, wide FOV configuration. As for the...

Completed Day 2 of my PADI OW Certification!

I'd say you might want to not buy anything but your personal items initially. I've seen too many new divers finish their OW course only to never use it again. Or maybe only use it while on tropical destination vacations. If that's the type of diving you will be doing, you might be better off...

Bering Sea Gold: Under the Ice

I went back and started watching this show from season one which took place during the summer months. And even then, the various teams were having numerous issues.

San Diego in late March 2013

I just returned from a weekend in San Diego. I was there for a wreck penetration class where we did 2 day dives on the Yukon, 1 night dive on the Yukon and the following day 2 day dives on the Ruby E. All on Waterhorse Charters' Humboldt and had a fantastic time. Later I found out that they also...

    San Diego's Wreck Alley videos

I wish I could've taken my camera down during our first two dives in the morning. Unfortunately those were two checkout dives so it wasn't an option. For both of those day dives and the night dive, we had about 40' visibility. The conditions on the surfaces were big though. Looking forward to...

Can you take still shots with a GoPro?

It isn't ideal but I typically keep my Hero2 in video mode and once I'm in a situation that I actually want to take some photos, I need to press a couple buttons before to make it happen. It isn't nearly as fast to switch over compared to my other DSLR but for the price, you can't beat it!

    1000 Lumen Dive Light - SORRY :)

After a friend recommended this light and I did some research online, I went ahead and purchased it. Loving it so far but I can't wait for a night dive to really test it out.

    Boat diving in Carmel

So if you are planning on diving weekdays, you would be better off launching from Point Lobos. The ramp is narrower than Breakwater and K-dock but you will be just minutes away from the dive sites. Best of all, at Point Lobos you have the hose to rinse off your trailer and towing vehicle. Good...
