    Recent developments

bmaber, I wouldn't worry too much about that specific article. I have worked in Israel for a year and a half now and constantly get information like that.

Which Red Sea liveaboard is best?

I am planning on going on Sea Queen I in November and its supposed to be one of the nicer liveaboards in the Red Sea, but that trip is going to be a photo expidetion so I did really do any shopping around. As far as flying from Israel to Sharm, this is something I have researched quite a bit...

Looking to dive red sea - recommmendations?

There is some boat diving in Eilat, but not that much. Japanese Gardens is probably the only regular boat dive site. Aqua Sport has a boat that runs day trips from Taba, but other then that I think you'll find it's mostly shore diving until you get down near Sharm. I haven't made it down to...

    Diving in Eilat

A taxi from downtown to Aqua Sport will run you about 20-30 NIS each way. So I don't think it would be worth it the rent a car. As for their shuttle, I think it just depends on how busy they are on the days when you are there. I think DAN is good, but I am not 100% certain.

    Short report on Mermaid1/Similans

I was on this same trip with Erez (that's me in the third photo) and can agree that there were no 'wow' dives, but still some very good dives. As always the boat crew on a Mermaid run boat was great. This was my fourth trip with them. As some others have mentioned, the Similans can be hit or...

    Diving in Eilat

I can agree with Barbara that Aqua Sport is very good. Some of the better sites in Eilat are Moses Rock and the Caves, but that really comes down to personal preference. Also, the day trip to Taba is very good. Things to know about diving in Eliat: 1) Diving insurance is mandatory, and can...

    Out of Eilat experiences

I am normally only there on the weekends, but sometimes if I am told I don't need to come in to work for a few days, I can shoot down during the week. When you do the dives with Steve, bet him that he has your name tattooed on his arse.;) :D :D

    Out of Eilat experiences

Barbara, Glad to here you are enjoying you start into diving. Once you get more certified, it will open up a lot of great diving in the Eilat area, and Aquasport is a great group to dive with. When I am in Eilat, if I am not diving with them, I am normally relaxing at the bar. You'll...

where to dive in thailand? (early april)

For your time schedule from Singapore, I think Phuket is your best bet. The flight is about an hour, and can be quite cheap with some of the new budget airlines. There are tons of dive shops there. All of which offer a multitude of day trips. 3 dive trips are not hard to find, and night...

    Lionfish how many?

I don't think I have done a single dive in the Red Sea and not seen a lion fish. When I dove the Aqua Sport House Reef in Taba last year, I saw about 5 different species. If you do a trip to the Red Sea, you are going to see a lot of them.

    Phuket All4Diving opinions?

I can agree with what Batfish said about All4Diving. They are a good shop. I have made a lot of equipment purchases there. I plan on using them for any day trips I do when I am there the first week of Jan., and then again in April for Mermaid I Liveaboard.

Diving in Red Sea from Israel ??

I don't really have too much to add because everyone has already covered everything pretty well. But I can agree with what Jai Bar said as to crossing the border. If you have the time, you will get much better diving in either Egypt or Jordan, but if you are also looking for nightlife Eilat...

Red Sea - end of OCt

The best way to get from Tel Aviv to Eilat would probably be by air. You could rent a car, but if you have never driven in Israel and don't know you way, it would take you about 6 hours to drive down. Based on when you arrive and when you need to be back in Tel Aviv, a liveaboard is out of...

    Best period for Similan cruise??

I have done one at each time. I can't really remember a difference in temp, but the seas were definately clamer during the April trip. Also, April 13-15 is Songkran festival, which is the Thai New Year (Water Festival). Basically drunk people running around hosing each other down with water...

    dive insurance in israel

Yes, insirance is required in Israel. DAN is accepted most places, but you should check with the shop you will use first. If they won't accept you current insurance you can always buy the local dive insurance for around $20/year. As far as dive quality goes, I can't tell you about the north...

    Spring in Thailand?

I did a liveaboard in the Similians in April '02 and it was great. We saw mantas, turtles, whale sharks, and tons of little things. That was my first liveaboard, and I plan on going back in April '06 to see if its as good as I remember; now that I have more experience under my belt. Also...
