    Advanced Open Water Disappointment

The sad part about recreational dive training is the variability in the quality of delivery. The standards are pretty much the same but the instructor is the difference between an outstanding and fun experience, and one that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I've been a recreational diver for...

Here we go again...PST tanks marked E9791/SP9791

The Canadian Government has extended the permit to mid 2025 for cylinders in Canada. No idea what happens then.

No such thing as a Pony Bottle

Honestly, if you were Russian it would have a different name again. In our club the majority of members use "Pony" bottles as a bailout air supply especially on deeper dives, as well as when scalloping as you often get seperated from your buddy. It is simply a bit more backup and requires very...

    Thinking Cuba, need ideas.

I've been diving Cuba for a number of years now and there have been some changes that expand what is available. If you are diving only at a resort, Breezes Jibacoa is very good. Great guys to dive with, the first deep dives of the day don't have many divers, and the reef off the resort is...

    Greetings from NS, Canada

Yes the reef off Jibacoa is one of the best for being right off the resort. The boat diving is also very good and you will never see another dive boat when you are out there. Breezes Jibacoa is said to be the highest repeat customer resort in Cuba and I have met many divers who were on repeat...

    Greetings from NS, Canada

Breezes had to replace their dive equipment and have no idea when it will arrive. However, there is an excellent operation that will pick you up and drop you off at the resort. The DM is Orestes Sanchez and I have dove with him at The Bay of Pigs for a few years and I highly recommend this trip...

Staying in Varadero, but want to dive Isla de la Juventud

There is a dive operation that I have used for a few years that I highly recommend. The contact in Cuba is Orestes Sanchez who can be reached at ph. 0115352717011 or email Orestes.sanchex@gmx.com. I usually dive The Bay of Pigs with Orestes and it is world class pristine wall diving. The day...

    Kittiwake Worth It?

It's not often you get to see a new wreck so that you can do comparisons as time goes on. I was diving with Sunset House anyway doing two boat dives in the morning. We did the Kittiwake as the second dive with a small surcharge of $10 extra. (Park fee or something) It was a great dive as one out...

    Oceanic pro plus 2

I just purchased one and find the computer is excellent! However, the Oceanlog software is painful and is still not working to upload dives. Oceanic could take some tips from Smartrak used by Uwatec.

    Best diving in Cayman Islands?

Just came back from a week on Grand Cayman; stayed at Sunset House and dove with Sunset Divers. Having dove in Cozumel and a number of other Caribbean locations I can say that this was my best experience yet. The resort is small and friendly with a great staff, a bar that has a lot of local...

    Oceanic Datamax Sport Battery Replacement

Back from a great trip in the Cayman's and decided to change the battery in the Datamax Sport. The retaining ring on the back of the module was easily unscrewed using household rubber gloves to give a grip. The unit takes a 1/2 AA 3.6 volt lithium battery which was easily purchased. Before...

    Oceanic Datamax Sport Battery Replacement

One last thought in regards to potential leaks after changing the battery. I would suggest using silicon spray, or a bit of silicon oil on a new o-ring for the cover. In some cases the small cross section of the o-ring does not create enough pressure on the grease to allow for a complete seal.

    Oceanic Datamax Sport Battery Replacement

I just goes to show how valuable these blogs are. I have an old Sport model I purchased in 1992 that is still on the original battery and is now my backup computer. With the info you guys have passed along I will be sure to piggy back a power supply to the circuit before I change the battery. I...

Anyone rig a Zeagle Ranger for doubles yet?

I've used the Ranger with the longer straps for doubles with no problem. I'm not sure I'd want to hike across the country and see if they stay on the pack, but they have been very secure onrocking boats and in the ogin.
