1 day of diving in Adelaide

Hi All,

I did a quick search through the forums and I couldn't find the answers I was looking for. I am traveling to Australia for work and will have 2 days in Adelaide and plan to also go up to GBR for a liveaboard. Can anyone recommend must do dives and a good LDS for 1 day of diving at the beginning of June? Just out of curiousity what are the current water temps? I am trying to avoid bringing along too much gear. I appreciate any help!

Hi Dan,

I live in Adelaide – I have the following comments.

'Must do’ dives will depend on what your diving interests are. As diving around Adelaide & most of SA is subject to wind direction & speed, you may find that the Adelaide coast is blown out and the only option to drive to the other side of the gulf to dive (i.e. 1.5 to 2 hour drive). On the Adelaide side of the Gulf, sites such as Rapid Bay and Port Noarlunga are worth a dive. If you can advise your interests, I make some suggestions.

Water temperature is likely to be below 15 degrees C (i.e. 59 deg F), although it can be warmer – I am usually in a dry suit by June, particularly if I diving all day and if the weather is cool.

‘a good LDS’ – the URLs for the dive stores that provide equipment hire, dive charters & escorted dives follow below. I wouldn’t give an opinion on which store is the best as I usually shop at a store that only does equipment sales & servicing (& not listed below). Please check opening days – some stores can be closed during weekdays (My experience is that Tuesdays is often the ‘closure’ day and that Tuesdays usually has the best weekday weather!).
