Steve and Matt, thanks for your input! I am going to book my dives with Trilogy tomorrow since rates go up on the 1st. Going with them is the only way to get some time on Lana'i as well as in the water. Mom is just going to hang out on the beach while I'm diving.

I'm still deciding which company to go with for the Manta dive... I was very happy with Kona Honu Divers when I was there a few years ago but I appreciate the reviews of the others.

Santa was kind to me this year, I got a GoPro4 to bring with me so I'll be good down to 130'! :)

Matt, I was able to get some fairly decent footage in 2009 with my simple PNS cam:

The water was a bit chilly and rough that year, I was getting shaky near the end. I asked the DM on that dive how to get the best shots with my cam and he said to use video rather than trying to get pics. I'm happy that I listened to his advice. :)

p.s. I know this isn't great footage but I was happy with it. I can't wait to see what I can do with the GoPro!

I'm interested in your post as we are going in May. We will be diving on Big Island and Maui. Unfortunately I don't have any information to help on your trip, but hope that you post your experience. WE are reading and investigating all info. before we go. Safe travels and diving!

Were you able to book SCUBA on Trilogy, or SNUBA? We've done the Lanai trip twice in the last 2 years, but my understanding was that they don't do SCUBA any longer. Would love to know otherwise!

The Lanai trip is really a lovely way to spend the day, and hopefully you'll have wind on the way back for a really fun sail. The time on the beach is wonderful and the crew does a top knotch job of taking care of you all day long. I recommend this trip highly, with the advice that you skip the "island tour" part. You're driven into Lanai City in a van, they stop at a gas station/gift shop, then you're taken to the beach. IMO a total waste of time and spending the entire time at the beach is FAR more worth it.
