I didnt end up going to Xcalak, went to belize instead.

Heres the video of all the diving! Watch it in 1080p, enjoy!

Super trip and awesome videos. Mexico ought to hire you to promote diving there. You saw just about everything and every type of animal possible.

Haha thanks! It was an awesome trip for sure. Only 2 things i missed out on was the bullsharks (they were not there) and the sailfish (they were just too moving to quick for us to get in and see them)
but all in all im super happy, Socorro especially was absolutely fantastic! having huge schools for hammers on most of your dives for like 3 days straight was something i will never forget.

Hey!
So im going to Mexico in february as im doing a liveaboard to the Socorro islands, and I planning to stay for another 4 ish weeks before and after the liveaboard.

Im thinking about staying in playa del Carmen as it is close to the cenotes, the bull sharks, the sailfish (?) and Cozumel.
i have however read that playa isn't the most charming place to stay. I'm looking for something that is laid back with some bars and beaches while still being able to book dives from there. Any suggestions on playa or other spots would be cool.

Also since The liveaboard is leaving from Los cabos I was thinking of staying in that area aswell, maybe do some more diving or just hang out and chill, any suggestions on either dives or spots to just chill at, in southern baja would also be much appreciated.
cheers!
If diving is the main thing and you want something more laid back than PdC, stay on Cozumel and ferry across to PdC for the cenotes rather than the other way round. The diving is way better on the Cozumel side of the channel and when you've done a cenote dive, you've done it.
