I've been a long time snorkeler, and decided to have a midlife crisis at our recent vacation in Baja California.

As it is not high season in Cabo San Lucas, I was able to get essentially a private lesson for a PADI open water certification course. The instructor decided to do all the skills demonstrations in the ocean, rather than in the pool (definitely more fun, but not for the faint of heart!).

I now have a license to be dangerous. I have absolutely no intention (hah!) of diving anywhere without a professional guide!

Had a great time. Convinced my spouse to do the "resort diver" dive with my instructor. He held her hand throughout a guided tour underwater. She had a great time (despite initial nervousness), and wants to do a certification next time we're in Cabo San Lucas.

Where we were diving & snorkeling, water temperature ranged from the 60's to low 70's (except Cabo Pulmo, where it must have been in the 80's) and visibility on the order of 10 ft (again, except Cabo Pulmo with much more visibility). Tons of fish & critters!

Well sounds like you are having a ball.. welcom to BS the only place you will be durning your SIT's!!!

Where in NM? Santa Rosa is about the only place to practice. Tried Bottom Lakes after a rain. Big mistake!!

I am not at all a computer whiz, but I have most of these controls figured out. If I can help you learn to navigate around here, send me a PM. Click my handle in the upper left here, then click Send PM...
