maybe we could leave on friday the 20 th and return home on monday the 23 rd.? somthing like that? and i wonder if we have to pay by each individual and whatnot? anyone havve a clue what the water temp could be like, what tyoe of exposure suit ect...?also how about carpool? share gas ect.?? i live in venice...would that be a good idea?
I think we should be able to reserve a spot and several of us (at least) should be able to camp out in the same spot. If I recall correctly it was about $30 a night. Dates are good for me.

I have wanted to put together a campig trip but this is not for the light hearted. It is a trip to the Dry Tortugas. You can actually camp on the island itself after jumping through some Govn't hoops. There is ZERO admenities. No bathroom, running water, medical aid stations... Nothing.

It would be a tough trip where you would ferry in and ferry back at al later date but would afford many days of shore dives for a very low cost. More information can be obtained at http://www.nps.gov/drto/.

I have been told that the mosquito population is horrific there though and would need to speak with a person who has went there first hand before even trying this trip.

This sounds interesting. I would certainly be interested. Is the idea to shore dive? I think it may be a challenge to carry all the camping and dive gear (including tanks) but with some planning it may work out. Let me know, I would love to try it out.

The Conchs like to camp n dive. Sometimes just dive, and sometimes dive n drink, which leads to camping...
whatever...
Next weekend the Conchs are going to Crystal River, although no camping is planned, there will be a bunch of conchs there to hang with.

Now THAT sounds like a camp/dive trip.

As others have mentioned, the logistics of enough tanks to supply several days of diving, food, etc, etc, might be problematic, but the experience would be like no other.

If you ever get serious about this, keep me in mind.

Sound good to me.
Actually the tank issue isn't so much a problem if you take a compressor(and O2 for nitrox mixes)So lets suppose a group of Conchs set their minds to this venture and rented a houseboat(Party Central & Shelter/mosquito control) and a compressor/manifold set-up,a couple of
Bought a few LP mosquito traps from Home Depot(also good anywhere in Florida)
Then divided the cost. This could be very doable.
$$$'s to dives ratio has to be better than the Venice trip. lol
Seems the only problem might be those mosquitos.

P.S I know I joke around about alot of things but I'm dead serious about this(I might would even spring for a compressor and or manifold set-up

There maybe a easier way to get this done folks

I would be up for a 2 or 3 night camp out.:D We could drag enough tanks with us for that. Thinking out loud here:05:
Maybe a weekend adventure.
If someone has a compressor multiple tanks would not be needed.
