We are going down in August. I have a daughter who is 8 and son who is six. My wife and I are looking forward to this trip and your trip preview is very assuring. We'll let you know how it went. I can rest easy. Thanks for the info.

1 - The Resort
In a word, exquisite! For those of you who don't know the resort, it's laid out in three main villages: Caribbean, French and the new Italian village, each with a pool (or pools), services and restaurants. There is also a big water park on the grounds as well. My wife and 8 year old daughter don't dive, so it was important to me that there was lots for them to do when I was off diving. At Beaches Turks and Caicos, there's never a lack of things to do! The staff is incredible and completely attuned to your satisfaction. We stayed at the Caribbean Village for the first week of our vacation, and then decided we would extend our vacation an additional three days. The staff was very helpful and accommodating; we were even given an upgrade to the French village for the final 3 days of our stay. As a guest, you have full run of the property, so it doesn't matter where you stay. And by the way, the guest accommodations are outstanding! At times it seemed the hardest thing to do was decide which of the sixteen restaurants to eat at! There's not a whole lot to do outside of the resort; there are a couple of small casinos, local restaurants and shops but not much else. The Turks and Caicos are the perfect place for the ultimate relaxing vacation, and the things you see on their website aren't an exaggeration. And then, there's the diving.

2) The Diving
Having just finished my AOW a couple of days before our arrival at Beaches, I wasn't required to do anything other than a verbal orientation which consisted of a member of the staff briefing me on boat procedures, dive times, safety, etc. If you haven't dove in the last 6 months, you will be required to take a refresher course in the pool. As this will burn a day of your diving, I would recommend getting a couple of dives in before you leave home. Be sure to get an instructor to sign off on this, as the dive staff at Beaches will require proof that you've recently been diving. A word here about the dive staff at beaches - these folks are awesome! Totally focused on your safety first and your enjoyment next, they go out of their way to provide friendly, helpful and courteous service at every turn. They are all knowledgeable and very focused on their jobs, and made every dive incredibly pleasant.
Once you've done your orientation, you can sign up for all of your dives for the duration of your stay. You don't have to wait until the day of a dive to sign up, or get on a waiting list. I know other people have had this problem in the past, but that's no longer the case. They offer a two tank dive at 8:15 a.m. or a one tank dive at 9:30 a.m. Monday - Saturday. On Sunday, there is only the one tank dive. Night dives are available for an additional fee of $80, provided there are a minimum of 5 people signed up for the dive. And, oh yeah, the diving is unbelievable. Nurse sharks, reef sharks, Nassau grouper, lobster, barracuda, turtles, sting rays and a whole host of other pelagic life was on display on almost every one of the 10 dives I was on. And in the rare event that you don't see the big boys, you'll still have a great dive as the micro life is rich and varied, and the sheer beauty of the underwater walls is stunning. Since most diving in TCI is wall diving, there's something beautiful to see at every turn. The dive sites I visited included locations on the Northwest Point and in Grace Bay. They included Pinnacles, Cathedral, Grouper Hole, Piranha Cove, Two Sharks, The Crack and Coral Gables to name a few. We will be going back to Beaches TCI, and I suspect again and again. It's the perfect family vacation, and one of the best dive destinations on the planet. Please contact me if you have any questions; I'll be happy to share what I know with you!
Happy Diving,

Here are the specifics on the dive program requirements from the watersports director for Sandals and Beaches.

• Certified diver who have dive within 6 months can go straight to a dive, once he or she clear medical and show proof of dive e.g. Logbook with stamp authenticating the dive/s & depth. Dive Computer
• All diver/s that have not dive in 7 months and up must do a pool assessment of 4 skills.
• Certified diver/s that has not dive up to 18 months must do a refresher at a minimal cost.
• All diver/s below Dive Master Level must do a shallow dive before they (diver) can go on any deep dive.
• All diver/s that complete the shallow dive satisfactory will be able to do both deep and shallow dives daily
Once the requirements are met all certified divers can dive twice (2) per day seven days per week if they (Diver) so desire.

Having just gotten back two days ago, I can state its not 6 months for a logged dive, its 3 months. Also I found that some people had to do the shallow dive first (40-60') and some did not. As my first day of diving was Sunday, there was only a one tank dive anyway in the 40-60' range. Also of note, nitrox is available for 15/tank, and I only wished I had had it for my day in west caicos.
As to the diving it was good, but not great for the most part.
I was able to get by with a skin, and some wore just a tee shirt and swimsuit. Water temp stayed in the 84-85º range.
The single tank dives are a 10min boat ride to grace bay and viz was in the 40-50'range. Not great reef formation and nothing exotic to see.
The two tank dives are all wall dives about a 45min ride out. OW divers are kept at about a 60' profile, while AOW go about 90-100', though of course you can go deeper if there is something to see. One thing I will say, though I dont necessarily advise, is that after signing up for your first dive, you could probably just sign up for add'l dives and note in the sign up book that you have AOW. These are not challenging conditions with current, or viz issues. These were all in Grace Bay at sites such as Amphitheater, Grouper hole, The Crack etc. Saw a few rays, a turtle or two, bunch of lionfish. Nothing exotic. Viz was in the 80-90' range. The profiles were all about 45 minutes with a 45 minute surface interval.
There were not enough people signed up for a night dive, so I cannot comment on that.
For my last day of diving, I was going to call Caicos Adventures ($125), but if 10 people sign up for west caicos diving, they will go out on a separate boat for $80/pp.
As they guaranteed me they were going out, I stuck with Beaches. (we wound up with only 9 divers). After the 65min boat ride we dropped in at the top of the wall and were greeted by a 7' black tip (my first shark) which swam around us until we were ready to drop to the wall. This was followed by a 2nd black tip, and two dolphins swimming by, as well as a couple of rays in the sand. As hard as it was to leave this spot, my group headed down the wall and found much brighter and diverse coral formations than in Grace Bay, as well as a huge crab, cleaner shrimp along with the usual suspects. The 2nd tank included another black tip as well. Unfortunately, I was 1min away from deco, so had to keep this profile a bit shallower than I would have liked. Should have sprung for the nitrox ;( BTW, Caicos adventures were diving the same spots we did in the opposite order (sorry I cant remember the names).
So...If I were going back, I would definitely look at some more dives outside the resort. They do pick you up at 815 and return around 215, but as was pointed out to me, if you have a family of 3 or 4 divers, Beaches TCI can be a great value.
I could write more about the resort itself, but I would suggest looking a previous posts or tripadvisor.

Thanks for the info. Heading down in August and may only get 2 days of diving in. Considering I've never dove in the eastern carribean, I will probably be happy with the diving. Definitely sticking to a 2 tank dive. Thanks for the heads up on that. Very good insight and helps with the expectation when I get down there. Fortunately, I just dove in a quarry this weekend, so I should not have any issues. Probably need to get that AOW at some point. Thanks again for the post. Charlie

Thank you for All the info. We are planning a trip next October with my dad (who is also fairly experienced), and my newly certified wife, 11, and 12 year old children. We will probably mix up the diving with an off site company for my dad and me, and save the resort trips for the whole family. Any experience with the other companies that you can share would be awesome. Thanks again

It has been a few years since we visited Beaches T & C, but we returned several times. I dived every single dive available, and always got a few other divers together so we could book a Wed night, night dive.

My gf, did some dive training there too. Really nice resort. good diving. great crew

Beaches was pretty good. No issues with anything there. As far as the diving, don't get alarmed by the lack of organization. Get there at 8am to provide your credentials. Once you are cleared, you can dive. They offer a 2 tank dive that leaves at 8am and a single tank that leaves around 9:30am. They also have a night dive (extra). Get your name on every wait list if you want to dive. There is always a good chance that you will be able to go. The single tank dive is usually a 10 minute ride, but shallow in depth. If your wife is going to bust your chops for diving all day, this is a good option. Water was perfect when I was there in August. The two tanker is nice because it is deeper, but they seemed pretty conservative in terms of depth. Saw a few sharks, some rays, and even a Mahi Mahi which was pretty tough looking. Turtles and Dolphins as well.

The resort is really good. Don't waster your time with the japanese place. It did not settle well. The sushi on the other hand was great. The French place and the Italian were both strong and even the Irish Pub was good. It never felt crowded but was at 98% occupancy. The French pool is pretty laid back and Robert and Simone make a great Mohito.

Thinking of heading down there in November. Is this 6 months/pool time universal across the island or just at this resort. It will be 7 months since the last of my 300 dives and I'd hate to loose a day

That is a Beaches Resorts rule. When I book diving guests into either Beaches or Sandals. If it has been more than 6 months, I have the guests go to their local dive center and do a pool refresher and I get permission from the watersports director at that particular resort to confirm in an email that they will allow this guest to dive without another pool refresher at the resort.

Great report. I have been there also. It was this trip to Beaches Turks and Caicos that drove us to get certified when we returned. We will now be going to Beaches Boscobel in June and looking forward to it. I have always enjoyed the Beaches resort model as it offers great options for the kids and non-divers along with catering to divers as well. No tipping and unlimited drinks is the cherry on top.

Agree with the awesome diving in West, but Beaches is for families with kids if you ask me (not something we look for!). We walked past this place many times on the beach and tried to walk quickly to avoid screaming kids. Maybe that's just us newly weds, but we stayed at a nice place (The Sands @ Grace Bay) for around $150/night for a huge room and it was great. I can definitely see how Beaches would be for those that want all inclusive, but it's too pricey for me and I enjoy more culture and getting out for meals/bars.

Here's a video of a shark I encountered within 5 mins of getting in the water on West! YouTube - Curtis diving with a reef shark!

ALLLl kinds of life around there.
