Headstrap is not the way to go .. Lost my first gopro on lobster dive and never knew it .. Had it on all the way to safety stop then noticed it was gone at surface . I recommend holding it or getting a proholder or if you wanna just attach it the zgear bcd attachment is great ..

Every person I know who has used the headstrap underwater has lost their GoPro, mostly on first go. Luckily some have got it back. Best option is to put a wrist lanyard on it and just use when you see something interesting.

I just picked up a GoPro Hero 3 for $250 and now I need to buy accessories for my upcoming Cozumel trip. I really like the idea of a head mount because then I can just turn on the video and dive, and not even thing about the camera and then edit it down to the best parts at home. But it seems people don't like the head mounts on here, saying they move around, etc.. but I don't understand.. if I angle the strap down, and put my mask strap over top which is quite tight, wouldn't that keep the whole thing solid as rock in place on my head? It shouldn't move if my mask doesn't move right?

Here's an attractive example: http://www.goprocustommounts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/gopro_dive2.jpg

Also how long will the standard battery last shooting continuous video in real world conditions? I just want to be able to shoot two dives a day.

I will be getting a Polar Pro red filter

Thanks!

If you are thinking of a head mount, please consider adding our NEW chin strap. This simple device should make it nearly impossible for the head strap to be accidentally dislodged..

Yeah it's more just for memories, I've gone on a couple of dive vacations and after a while it all becomes a blur.. not trying to create a cool video to put online, just for myself.. if i can get 2 minutes of decent footage from a 50 minute dive that would be good enough. the octomask looks cool unfortunately i need a prescription so i'll have to stick with my current mask

i was mostly just wondering why no one puts their mask strap over the head mount strap to keep it in place as it seemed like that would solve any issues of it moving around on your head or flying off your head?

i'll look into mounting on my bcd as well, to mix it up and see what works best. i really don't want to hand hold at all, i've dove with a camera before and i found it really took away from my enjoyment.. i was focused on the camera rather than what was around me and just soaking it all in. but thats just me :) on land, i take an obscene amount of photos so i get that

If you decide to try the Z Gear bcd Go Pro mount I can send it to you with an extension arm already on it. This gives you the best option for filming hands free, as you can see what the camera is filming.Check out the how to use video and I have also included some scuba board members videos using the Z Gear BCD mount with the extension arm.

Hi Frank,

I am looking to do reviews on Go Pro Mounts for scubadiving as well - would be very interested to try the Z Gear BCD Go Pro Mount! If it is possible for you to extend the offer and send that to me as well it would be much appreciated!

Yeah I just do not want to be bothered fiddling with a camera underwater, I love photography but when I dive, I just want to dive.. with a headmount it'll capture the whole dive so if something interesting happens I'll have it, it'll get lots of footage of my wife, etc..

The problem to me with a BCD mount is the camera won't always be pointed in the right direction.. if i'm vertical looking forward the camera will be fine but if i switch to horizontal looking forward the camera will be pointing down.. if its on my head i know it's always recording exactly what I see.

But how come no one seems to just put the headmount strap -under- their mask strap, is there something I'm missing? I don't have a head mount strap to test it with so I'm just curious why this wouldn't work?

Take a look at this picture perhaps this can change your mind about the BCD mount by Z Gear.1 Extention kit for Gopro mount use a first photo.jpg
We call it the BCD long arm mount!
I am sorry mingtsun but we have already have given several of these mounts to scuba board members for review but we still appreciate your interest. We have had many reviews and are confident of this product. It works really well and there is nothing out on the market like it, and we are proud of that. Perhaps it would be good to ask other scuba board members about the BCD mount especially the BCD mount with the extension arm.

For those who have the regular BCD mount the extension kit will allow to convert your mount to the long arm version.
