hi crpntr133, how was the ocean images dolphin pro underwater video housing? im thinking of getting either that or the top dawg2 by L&M. what would you guys suggest? any experience with the top dawg 2 anyone? thanks

Haven't gotten it wet yet so I can't comment totally yet. I really like the housing so far. I also looked at the L&M and decided against it since it is magnetic controls. I don't have to move my hands to use the Dolphin.

I see alot of you video shooters are pretty serious. What kinds of projects are you shooting?

Most of us here are just hobbyists making vacation videos. If you think we are serious, you should see the guys over on Wetpixel. :D

I use a Sony Digital 8 camcorder. I think the model number is DCR-TRV920. It's heavier and bulkier than the newer mini DV models, but I wanted to be able to edit my old 8mm tapes and it's backwards compatible with them. With the housing it's heavy out of the water but only slightly negative in it. The housing is an Ikelite and it's as solid as a Sherman tank. The first time I used it, I picked up the curvature of the port in the upper corners of the image, but since then I've made sure I zoomed in slightly, just enough to get an unobstructed image.

Ocean images dolphin Pro housing
sony DVR-HC1 HDV camcorder
Sunpack NC4 neutral density filter
Sony 0.6x wide angle conversion lens
Nq71 batteries
self built 3.5 inch lcd monitor in the housing
and a few other modifications : extra tray to hold battery for lights and arms and a couple of other gizmos that make my life easy

Niterider HID videolights with factory installed diffusion lens.

here is a tip : those super expensive flexible arms that you can buy everywhere are a complete rip-off. go to any hardware store tha is specialised in metalworking and machining. they have that stuff. it is coolant tubing made by Loc-Line
6 dollar buys you a foot of that material. for 24 $ you can get two very long arms....
you can buy online directly from them:

Hi guys,

Just bought a new system, since older one messed up leaking in last week's contest.

New system is again second hand but in very good condition.

Sony PD150 camcorder
Gates Diego Housing (manual)
Isotecnic Xenon Lights
+4 close-up lens
Flat port
Dome Port w/WAL

I'll be trying the system UW next week. I will be amazed having use the manual white balance UW. Besides, almost everything is controllable underwater.

I'll let you see this new piece of art working in a couple of week. (fingers crossed) :)

All the best,
Yener

I have made two dives in Grand Cayman and two dives in Nassau. I have a Sony Handicam and a homemade acrylic housing and I video all my dives. First of all, instead of merely telling my friends and families about my dives, I can show them and they can share my experiences. Second, during long stretches of not diving, I can watch my videos and dream about my next dive vacation. You can see several of my videos, including the James Bond Dive in Nassau at video.google.com. Search for Rock Wall Dive and James Bond Nassau.
