Hi -

Could someone from Cape Town let me know what the water temps are this time of year? We're bringing dry suits for our upcoming trip, but we were wondering about undergarments and (especially) hands - 7 mm semidry mitts or 5 mm fingered gloves? I had heard upper 50's - does this mean at the surface and 15 degrees colder at depth like it does here? thanks - Allison

Hi Allison

It depends on which side of Cape Town you dive on. False Bay (warmer) I dived last weekend and the temp was 14'c at 20metres (can't do the 'F thing - sorry). On the Atlantic side (colder) it can be anything from 7-13'C at this time of year, and paradoxically gets a bit colder in summer due to upwelling from the colder current

Check out http://www.scubashack.co.za/divesites.html for information, and maybe drop them a mail for the latest temps

Thanks!! Think we're doing False Bay both days, but either way, variations around 50 or so...
