My boyfriend and I have decided (finally) on Curacao for our scuba vacation this year. Sept 20-27ish looks best for frequent flyer miles. Now, where to stay?

Habitat Lodge and Sunset Waters were recommended by our travel agent, but trip advisor says that they both are in poor condition.

We are looking for some romance, without a lot of kids. Good diving is important, for a good price.

Any help appreciated. I am looking to book the airlines soon, so I can use frequent flyer miles on American Airlines.

Check out the Lodge Kura Hulanda: http://www.kurahulanda.com/01a_lodge_info.html

I can't vouch for it, but we did have our reservations there for February, before an unfortunate accident caused us to cancel.

We stayed at Lodge Kura Hurlanda a month ago. Great place! Staff was very nice, property was well maintained. We shore dove the house reef (Alice in Wonderland). Dive shop located by beach. We saw very few kids. Kids must be with an adult at all times and we saw it enforced. Some tips if you decide to stay at LKH: 1) Get the oceanfront studio. Private patio, great views, huge bathroom. 2) Rent a car. It is way off the beaten path. 3) Tip the maids. We put a few bucks on the table for the morning maid and a couple for the evening maid (bed turn down). We got fresh towels twice a day.
My wife is already planning our '08 trip back.

We stayed at Marriott (carib seasports on site) and got OW cert. It was awesome great time. Did a day trip to Kura Hurla and that was nice as well with Ocean Encounters there almost on site.

I am partial to the great folks at Carib seasports. IMO Marriott has much nicer beach and dining opportunities. Kura Hurla beach is public but secluded. Alice in Wonderland was great as is the Marriott house reef.

Boy I bet that information helped.... Either way you will have a blast. PM me if you want further information!

We were at Sunset Waters in late April, and it was nice. Not luxurious, but very pleasant. We had the "basic" rooms, but they were spacious and spotless, with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The restaurant was charming and the food was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The dive shop was terrific. The facilities were very convenient and the staff was extremely accomodating, even when we wanted special dives. The house reef is quite nice and has a pair of resident sea horses.
The beach is nice for lounging but you definitely need aqua socks to swim there, as the bottom is rocky.
I would definitely go back.

Thank you all very much for the adive here, and on the PM.

We have decided to stay at Habitat. Will let you all know how it goes!

I like Habitat. The restaurant service can be a little slow, the resort and rooms aren't fancy, but if you picture a dedicated dive resort and not a resort that has diving (Marriott), it should meet your expectations.

My favorite thing about Habitat is the convenience and quality of diving the house reef. Shore dives at Porto Marie and Cas Abou are close by and very nice too.

Stayed at the Habitat, and really enjoyed the diving there. They have this attitude - if you are an advanced open water diver, they trust you to be responsible and dive safely - whenever you desire off of their house reef. While we were there a group of 70+ divers came in, and the resort handled the extra people perfectly. We were not inconvenienced in the least, since they added more boats and more dives to accommodate them.

The restaurant was ok, anything fish related was good. I heard about taste issues with the beef, so I stayed away from it. I also recommend having one dinner at a restaurant called Landhouse Daniel. It's a 10 minute cab ride from the resort. Food there was amazing.

Hanging out in the pool after the dives was cool as well.
