I'll be travelling alone to Perhentian Island for 5 days of diving. It is my first time there.Need help from those of you who have been there in November.I want to stay at the big island preferably in a resort that has a dive shop, aircondition rooms and 24hrs electricity. Is a 3 mm wetsuit fine for November?Your recommendations are most appreciated. Thanks in advance.Fredi.

Perhentian is on the East Coast meaning monsoon is from October to March

Taken from Websites:
"The best time to visit Pulau Perhentian is from March to October, outside of the monsoon season"
"When to visit ? The best time is definitively at the end of the monsoon before the tourists invasion : March to the beginning of May. End of May to September is crowded. Mid-November to March is usually closed."

There is not much temperature variation at Perhentian. I've used a 0.5mm wetsuit and it was fine.

I have never gone to Perhentian later than August but heard of the boat ride to the island during monsoon... the water would be so choppy that by the end of the boat ride, you would be completely drenched...

Yes...it is monsoon from October to March, and that is why divers in this region will either switch to the west side or head elsewhere.
Beside I heard that during monsoon period, some resorts will be closed. So my suggestion to you is either you change your destination or call up resorts to make sure they are still operational during that season.

if you ask me it's too risky to go during monsoon. there will be nice days, but it is very unpredictable. and the weather could change suddenly so that when you're underwater you will not realise the storm brewing above. personally i think it is a hazard to go diving in the monsoon. some resorts will be open, we too are open during monsoon, but we won't take anyone diving.

I have just been there for a month and it was very beautiful, however, as everyone else has pointed out the islands pretty much close down in November. If you plan to go outwith monsoon season you can stay at the Pehrentian Island Resort which will have all the amenities you need and is on the most stunning beach. They have a web-site. I think it is called pehrentian-island-resort.com.

Fredi,

I stayed at Tuna bay. was nice has 24 hr elec, two dive shops, and ac. You need to check when they close for the season cause of the monsoons. Can't help u about the water temp in Nov. In Aug it was great, although I wore a 1 mil full suit because there were quite a few jellyfish.

I dived with AluAlu on the big island (Besar) at the end of August. Excellent operator. Their website has weekly weather/diving updates on conditions - might be a good indicator about whether you should go at this time of year.

Hope you find something.

I was in kecil (small) Island mid september this year. The weather was awesome but as the rest have pointed out, Oct to March will not be ideal as most of the dive operators will not be in operation. I put up at mata hari and dive with coral sky. you could refer to their website if you plan to head down after the monsoon. It is cheaper if you sign up > 6 dives with them.
