Floating robot helps track great white sharks - wsbt.com

Please share!
While I like the idea of being able to 'see' where the Great Whites are travelling, I fear that the app for tracking will enable the wrong people to find the sharks and potentially decimate the population!

The Roddenberry Foundation provides ongoing support for the Aquarium of the Pacific as it works to to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems. We're thrilled that the AOP produced film "Shark Smart" has been named a Finalist in the Non-Broadcast category at the 2012 BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit. "Like" this if you support humans working to protect and preserve ocean ecosystems, "share" if you want more people to learn the importance of protecting and preserving the oceans.

Gulf seafood deformities alarm scientists - Features - Al Jazeera English

BP will never truly pay for what has been done to the Gulf region. The reality appears to be that Gulf seafood will not truly recover for decades (50 to 75 years is my guess) and who knows, it may take longer than that. You could not pay me to eat Gulf seafood at this point. Think about the concentrations of chemicals that are causing these deformities and then think about what that could do to you should you eat this!

Here's a fun quote:
"Eating shark meat may expose you to potentially dangerous, high levels of the metal mercury. To avoid too much mercury intake, limit the amount of shark you eat and don't eat shark if you are pregnant or nursing. "

Ships such as this one are not only not necessary, they are obviously designed to clean ALL life from the area in which they fish. As for the letting 50 persons go (due to the ban) - I would think that more than 50 would be hired if they utilized smaller boats and sustainable practices!
