The best dive sites are all a fair distance to the north, and all the liveaboard operators offer a minimum of three nights due to the travelling distance (it is an overnight trip to get to the first dive site). Fly/Dive itineraries such as Mike Ball offers allow you to go the distance and still fit in the maximum amount of diving but cutting down on travel. The flight is included in the trip price

There are a couple of day trip operators which claim they visit the Ribbon Reefs, but they refer to the very southern tip and it is not the same. Andrew Jones (who posts on these forums is a great person to ask about the full range of trips) as he is definitely in the know on the whole range of options and has done most of them himself rather than speaking through other people's experience.

If you are going to be in the Townsville and/or Ayr parts of Queensland you will not want to miss out on diving the SS Yongala wreck and Wheeler reef. Both can be done easily as day trips and both are top notch in the world!

If you need to, get in touch with Pleasure Divers on Magnetic Island or Adrenalin Dive in Townsville.
