I am around fort lauderdale for couple of days, I'd like to dive in the area.
I searched around the site and it seems bets dives are the wrecks (grove, eagle, duane).
Anything else?
Thanks.

You picked some excellent wrecks, but none of them are near Fort Lauderdale. The Eagle is off Islamorada, the other two are off Key Largo. There is excellent wreck diving in the Fort Lauderdale area as well. Check out Shipwrecks in the Local Area for some info on area wrecks.

If you're into wrecks that's fine. There are some great wrecks in the area, just ask a dive shop.

As for me there is a whole lot of diving off the beach. Actually we are going tomorrow morning! Here is the thread http://www.scubaboard.com/t30934/s.html
There is another beach dive for Sunday http://www.scubaboard.com/t31185/s.html
Hope you enjoy your stay!

I suppose you could drive the 2+ hours to dive the wrecks you mentioned, but there is enough good diving right in the Fort Lauderdale area, the drive down south seems like a waste to me.

Boats from Ft. Lauderdale go to Tenneco Towers, a group of abandoned rigs. It's an awseome dive. The structures lie in 110 ft of water. They are completely encrusted with life.

If you're going to be Noth of Ft. Lauderdale you might consider Pompano Beach or West Palm Beach as diving destinations. I've seen some amazing things drift diving in the West Palm Beach area.

Don't bother taking the drive to the Keys. Just dive where you are. You can't go wrong.

I totally agree. Also, if you want a great dive shop, try Brownies southport. Right on a canal and their staff are incredible.

Thank you all for the info.
Thanks to scuba_jenny for the invitation. Unfortunately plans have changed a little and I'll be out of town Sunday.
I might be here again in couple of months. I'll let you know in time, maybe we shall dive together.

My dive club did a trip to Lauderdale by the Sea with them last year. They can arrange shore diving or boat trips for you.

Shore diving Lauderdale by the Sea, while not as spectacular as some other shore dives you can do, is probably the easiest coral reef dive you will ever do in the US. I really enjoyed it. There are other shallow dives in Fort Lauderdale as well.

I finally succeded to dive at Captain Dan as a first then a drift dive as a second. Not bad at all.
I think this time I did poor on advance planning. I'll take care about this next time. Thanks for the info.

hello there,

might be a bit of an odd question, but how long are the boat rides to the wrecks from lauderdale by the sea?
what about to the reefs?
I am a bit of a seasicker, and have done the shore dive once, I would like ot get back and do it again with a couple of boat dives, but don't want a long ride.

Any suggestions?
