Hey y'all, my girlfriend and I were looking to take a trip to Pensacola in a few weeks and were interested in diving the Ft. Pickens Jetty. I know to hit it on a slack tide but has anyone else gone there and have any tips or tricks? Thanks!

Welcome to the panhandle.

Be in the water an hour before high tide for the best vis. Currents can be nasty. South is to the beach north to the channel. If you walk a little east you can swim out to the buoy chain and anchor. Sometimes there's neat stuff there.

The jetties are ok but allot of the stuff that used to be down there is covered up. Keep one eye out to deeper water, you're in the pass which is a main feeding area for sharks. My dad and I ran into a 12' tiger there one one dive a while back. He wasn't interested and we only got a brief glimpse but they are there.

You might want to head to the reefs at Navarre. They're pretty basic and an easy beach dive. I've seen 10 octopus on one dive. Turtles are a regular sighting there and pretty unconcerned about you.

Enjoy your time here. If there are any other questions, just ask. I hope I answered something you were looking for.
