We will be coming back from Ambon (actually Banda) in November. My buddy wants to get back to the US for Thanksgiving (me, I have forgotten what that is all about). His international flight leaves from DPS the following day.

We could make a booking that would have us change planes in Jakarta with a one hour layover, both legs on Garuda. We would arrive in DPS the day BEFORE his international flight, (which is at 16:00 the following day).

Should we do it? Seems to me that if we get somehow stranded in Jakarta, there would be MANY flights to DPS in the following 16 hours. A greater risk might be the ferry back from Banda to Ambon the previous day.

Flight 3 — Mon, Nov 21 6h 35m
2:40p — 4:15p Economy 3h 35m
Ambon (AMQ) — Jakarta (CGK)
Garuda Indonesia 647 · Narrow-body Jet · Boeing 737-800

Change planes in Jakarta (CGK)

1h 00m
5:15p — 8:15p Economy 2h 00m
Jakarta (CGK) — Denpasar (DPS)
Garuda Indonesia 426 · Wide-body Jet · Airbus A330

Thanks,

I've had good luck with Garuda the past several years. As long as they show as a connecting flight you should be ok. If there is a problem with the connect Ambon should know about it & book you on a later flight to Bali. Overnight in Jakarta if necessary. (I've made a couple of 30-45 min connects on Lion. That's really pushing your luck.)

There are a gazillion flights from Jakarta to Bali. If you or your luggage do not make the 4:15 flight so it goes...just be sure to pack some necessary stuff in your carry on just in case.
