Anyplace that supplies Nitrox and does training should have an analyzer for you to use, so it shouldn't be necessary to have your own. Some people do and many more people don't. I've yet to see anyone with their own on a tropical trip. I might get one sometime, I've run into a remote op or 2 where I wish I'd had my own due to condition or availability of theirs, but I haven't yet.

If you do a seach at http://www.scubaboard.com/search.php? with the keywords "nitrox analyzer" you will get various opinions on if you should have your own, and which brands are better.

I would suggest getting the course material before you go and get the reading and the knowledge reviews out of the way. This way you won't have to do too much studying during you vacation.
You will have to take the written test, i highly suggest you bring a calculator so you can use it to do the manual MOD and O2 level portions of the test.
Don't worry about the nitrox analyzer, I bought one after the course and I've only used it a couple of times, and that was just to avoid the line for the provided analyzer.
