I found this critter when I observed something moving subsurface during a dive last week in the Persian Gulf.

I prised it out from the sand and this is what I found

Within a few minutes it started to dig in and bury itself

I believe it's some type of Heart Urchin, possibly Metalia spatagus.

Has anyone come across these before?

I see heart urchins occasionally. Here's a Lovenia cordiformis from Southern California.
