If everything comes out to 42 pounds, what's the problem? If you can't make it work, I'd put up with the discomfort of a duffel bag again before I'd leave my Deep 6 fins or SS BP/W at home. (You could always leave the snorkel.)

I agree. It leaves 8 lbs. for clothes and toiletries. Enough for a trip to the tropics--barely.
