Welcome to the board and diving. There are a bunch of us that are active divers around the state. As long as the dive is appropriate, newbies are always welcome. Find a local quarry, come join the divers there and build your experience. There are a good number of them in the state and there are usually divers there each week.

Thanks for the encouragement! I plan on going with my local dive club to all the quarry trips they are going to do! Hopefully I'll see you there!
