I, too, may be dating myself (ScubaBaby, am I twice your age? How quickly times flies!) but I remember watching re-runs as a kid on our other coast and NEVER considering that I would be able do that, too. Not the hose cutting, I mean the diving part. But that was before man (and woman) went into space. Anyway, I have since heard that the "white" wetsuit was actually a regular wetsuit, a creation of the Meistrell brothers of Body Glove fame, that was painted gray, because it made for better visibility, and what, did you expect a white Stetson underwater?
 
Why of course, all good guys wear white Stetson hats.
