I dove this weekend in low viz conditions. It was typical Ohio shallow quarry conditions. Mid 70's, 10 foot viz above 12', then 0'-5' viz below that. For once I welcomed crappy viz, since these were navigation dives for the cert. My instructor was hovering just above, enabling him to see my compass headings. I couldn't see him at all during the compass legs, but I could easily hear him breathe. The viz layer at 12' gave a great depth indication, so it was an exercise in buoyancy control to boot! We ran a measure 100' down a line that was in the silt, viz at that point was zero to one foot. We had contact the entire time. We could have lost each other in seconds if we weren't touching.
