....

Wow I hadn't realized there were so many sites.

Thanks Frog, I will definitely check them out. For some strange reason, I thought the "Doing it Right" concept was started by a manufacturer (Halycon?), and it was used to sell their gear. Apparently, I was VERY mistaken.

Thats what I love about the diving world...always something new to learn!

As a dive instructor you can tell a different story. You will now be making money for your employer and can expect to be paid 300 pounds sterling a week or a salary of 15,000 pounds a year. With experience of course this goes up"

Is this a realistic reflection of what a diving instructor would get paid? I was under the impression that PADI instructors dont get paid this sort of money. Can anyone clarify this please.?

Frog,

Whoever wrote this has absolutely no idea about the UK diving industry. Have a good look round http://www.puffin.org.uk/framehome2.html. Puffin are about the largest dive centre in the UK.

They don't make a big profit - they aim to break even each year. How do they do this? - Mike Morgan the owner owned a speciality chemical business and puffin divers is his hobby now he has sold the business.

They by reputation are amongst the best payers in the UK diving industry. They have very good staff retention (ie they are happy and stay there).

Salaries? for their staff - they advertised in diver recently for new staff - they pay Instructors £150/week but give them free food and lodging (that was according to Baz his son).

As for a 14 week PADI instructor course....... That very much sounds like one of the 'start with open water, do all the courses with us, paying us ££££££££££££££' type things. If it is genuinely 14 weeks of learning to be an instructor then beware, you could find yourself qualified quite quickly, and working for nothing for 10 weeks (usually an IDC is 10 days + 2 days for the IE)
