Maybe pulling the trigger early on plane tickets wasn't such a bad thing. IJS

Any people traveling solo staying for an extra week from July 7-14? Trying to swing it and it would help my bidget to share a room somewhere. 2nd week I'm just looking at staying somewhere cheap and clean. Nothing fancy. Any recommendations? I was thinking about the hostel downtown if I have to go it alone. Not sure if I really want to stay in a dorm room though.

What DiverG said, with airfare costing as much as a week's hotel and diving, why not?

Honestly, I've never checked into this but I've read a number of threads here at SB where the topic is staying on the Island with a limited budget.. And not in some hostile.. With some searching you probably can find something for $20-$40 a night.. Maybe a little more... Maybe a little less... Deals can definitely be found if you look beyond the mainstream tourist avenues and you don't require internet and TV.

I have stayed at the Suites Bahia and the standard room with a view of a wall is $42 a night/ Split in 2 that comes to $21 a night and it comes with a great breakfast buffett at the Casa Mexicana. A room with a very small side balcony with a angled view of the ocean is only about $6/night more and also comes with a Kitchenette. Same deal with Suites Colonial. but about $5/night cheaper. I'm also looking into local hotels that are even cheaper from what I have been told.

DiverG, I'm staying a 2nd week for those dates, but I'm going the other direction - a nicer place for the 2nd week (Iberostar).

Also, Natasha and I are going to be doing the Cenote excursion, anybody from DT8 going on that one? (You can't all go see the whale sharks... we need to FOKUS on staying together) and NOOOOOO.. as cool as whale sharks are, I am just not going to snorkel when I can dive (living in chilly Canada, I need to tropical dive as much as I can while away, snorkelling is just not in the plan).
