I don't think diving is dangerous. Sure there is a certain ammount of risk involved..but it's supposed to be calculated risk. PEOPLE are what make it dangerous. By pushing the limits and being careless.

Sure it is dangerous,

but come on! Life is a long fatal illness, so who cares...

you are safer underwater alone than driving in Dallas at any time.

fatalities per million per year...

scuba diving's 56.9,
swimming's 21.9 or
bicycling's 20.5

For my money, I'd say scubadiving is more Unforgiving than Dangerous.

I think it can depend a lot with who you are diving with and if you decide to exceed your personal limits of safe diving. I have dove with some that made me feel very unsafe for them and myself.

david.tolan's comment,"scubadiving is more unforgiving than dangerous"

I don't find diving to be thrilling or exciting. For me diving is peaceful, relaxing and soothing to the soul.

Amen to that! I am more at risk walking across a street on a busy traffic day or driving than I am diving. But, I will say that diving does get to be where if you make a mistake, you can quickly have fewer options to get out of your self-imposed "situation" than some other activities.

About managing your risks. Anything in life is dangerous if done wrong.

Its only dangerous if you and your buddy are acting like numnuts and not paying attention. Gotta Gotta Gotta pay attention!!!!!!!!!!
