Ok, so they are looking for oil. Right? The problem is?

Ok, so they are looking for oil. Right? The problem is?

The short term or immediate problem is that the seismic testing will probably be very harmful to marine life. The long term problem is that we do not want oil wells off our beaches. Or anyone else's, for that matter. This mad pursuit of fossil fuels has got to stop.

Until we find another way, fossil fuels are the only thing keeping us out of the Stone Age. I'm all for developing clean energy, but I also realize the need to be independent of Saudi oil.

Where are we going to get our helium from when we quit drilling?

Is it harmful to marine life? No more harmful than active sonar being used by the navy. Would you suggest we ban warships from pinging as well?

Can we(MOD) move this to a forum more suitable and not flood the tech forum with political koolaid from both sides?

As this has a direct effect on the wreck diving in the area of the survey, I thought this forum appropriate.

The proposed research by Rutgers is NOT about oil drilling, it is about coastal margin sedimentation to look at historical sea levels in the NJ area.
It is unlikely to have any effect on diving, given the lower sound levels of such research and the distances between the surveys and the diving.

OP, you'd be well-advised to get your facts right before attempting scare-mongering.
