I had been twice in Jamaica, Negril area. For me is great diving!! grat visibility, no currents, no waves, warm waterl excellent weather. Also good music and company. I was diving with Scuba Caribe, RIU club hotel, Negril. Here is my Flikr album from Jamaica UW. Hope you enjoy Jamaica Junio 2012 - a set on Flickr Paula

Here are some pics from my dives in Ocho Rios this week, went with Scuba Caribe at Club Hotel RIU. I'm a little spoiled from diving Key Largo and Grand Bahama Islands. Was on the the dives with a guy from Kansas, a father and son from England, and the second with a guy from Portugal, they all thought they were great dives, and liked the sites. The reefs looked okay and the fish life was very small. The first pic is the best place I've seen lion fish that wasn't on a plate :) There were 4 or 5 in the cage, and one on the outside trying find his way in.

I'll be in RIU Tropical Bay in December 2012 how was Scuba Caribe?

Thanks for the pics! Looks like the reefs are alive and well. We will be there in May 2013 at Couples.

They were great, even though the website said 1 tank dives morning and afternoon, it depended on the distance to the dive site as to whether or not we did 2 in the morning.

They are very professional, very “PADI way”. Although I just now the guys in Negril and the Scuba Caribe of RIU Mexico, I think that this is a company policy.
The gear they use for rental is fine, not the best and usually very used, but good enough. BCD and Reg are Scubapro. For wetsuit they usually use 3 mm “shorties”(short legs and sleeves) and no boots fins, so if you want something with more protection for your skin you should take your own wetsuit.

Have fun and enjoy the peaceful waters of Jamaica!!!

Thanks Paula I plan on taking my own reg, mask, snorkel, fins, and wet suits and will only be renting the BC and weights from them.

We dove while staying at Couples Negril in September 2011 and 2012 and found a huge difference in the reef. So much worse in just one year. Maybe we were comparing it to Cozumel our new dive location where we go 3x a year. As my husband was telling fellow guests..."Jamaica isn't known for diving but we are just happy to be in the water and blowing bubbles". Plus it's included at Couples so why wouldn't you dive??? :D

Just back from Couples TI. Dive crew great, but not their facilities.
I recognise the photos above, we must have gone to the same sites.
Shame about the nets, but they have to earn a living, but soon there will be nothing to eat, for us or the fish.................
Met some great people and enjoyed the dives.

I've dove off Negril on two vacations in 2005 and 2006. The diving was ok. Good vis, warm water, but not a lot of larger fish. It's been over fished. I remember seeing lobster cages floating on the bottom on @ half the dives we took. They had come loose from the moorings. I asked the DMs why no one took them out and they didn't really give me an answer.

On the plus side, we saw more dolphins while diving than on any other vacation. And some of the biggest nurse sharks I can remember.
