Peter McGuinness:
That's one hell of a weekend!

:D

Peter

No, no, no! Is that even possible? I guess if you do 5 minute dives to 10 feet or something, it's possible to get 100 in a weekend. :11:

I think you knew what I meant, but it was the 100th lifetime dive - actually only the 5th dive of the weekend.

Last month, we stayed the night at the west end of catalina....i found an unopened bottle of tequila.....at 40 feet...(it didnt stay unopened for long! :dazzler1:
The real question is, did you try and drink it underwater or wait? It would cartainly be an adventure, but I guess it would depend on how nice a tequila it was!

MyDiveLog:
Where do you consistently find "unintentionally donated" scuba equipment underwater?
In the sand between Deadman's and the main reef at No. Crescent. Weekend before last, one snorkel, one mask, one new golf ball. Couldn't figure out how the latter wound up there until a golfer friend told me that people drive them off the bluff at Crescent Point.

Walter:
If I respond to this, I won't find as much plunder.

You gotta factor in 'scuba karma' when thinking about this. Give a few tips, and end up getting 10 times more plunder!

Kernsey: no auction planned -- the 5 kids seem to run through all the masks and snorkels on a regular basis!

MyDiveLog:
Just in front of the steps at Casino Point, especially after a weekend of teaching when the Santa Ana's are blowing.

You mean like last weekend? Sheesh! That was some nice heavy surge combined with a high tide. Knocked my wife and I silly as we were trying to exit, and we've been diving Casino Point for some time now and are very experienced with how to use the surge to make an easy stair exit. Didn't matter - we got clobbered anyway. It ripped the snorkel right off my wife's mask, clip and all. If anyone finds a nice blue snorkel (Scubapro, I think) near the stairs, enjoy! I already bought her a new one, so finders keepers (not that I have much choice  ).

Davee:
i was lucky to find a spare air bottle at santa cruiz a few years ago, i still have it and it works perfectly.

NO JOKE but I lost a spare air at santa cruiz... was it a yellow 3ltr. There is no way to prove its mine so enjoy... hope it saves your life some day.

After I lost my spare air I P-Touched my name and telephone on all of my items...

HERE is a question for everyone if you found something with someones name on it would you (A) Scratch it off and keep it or (B) call the person and return it?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I would return it. Long story ahead;
I got a call from a buddy one day. He and a friend were diving at Cortez Bank in a good current. Having a scooter with him, his friend didn't feel the need to worry about finding the anchor at the end of the dive. Naturally, the batteries died. He surfaced 1/4 mile downcurrent from his boat. After attempting to swim with his gear and a scooter against the current, he decided to inflate his BC fully and let everything float away. They would retrieve it when they got the anchor up. He made it to the boat, pulled anchor and motored downcurrent. After more than two hours of searching, they gave up.
Later that day, I went to my LDS to fill my tanks. I told my friend at the shop about the missing gear. He said a fisherman had come in the shop about an hour earlier and said he found a BC, tank and scooter at Cortez earlier in the day. Fortunately he left a phone number. I got the fisherman's number to the owner of the gear. I expected him to give the guy a nice reward for finding it, but the guy wanted to sell everything back for $3000!!! What a jerk! They finally settled on $2000, but I would have followed the guy home and beat the crap out of him.

I do that regularly, but you'd be amazed at how many people don't put any id -- particularly a phone number -- on their stuff. I truly believe that "what goes around, comes around." Most recent proof: I won a $650 reg in a raffle last week.

If you lost a brand new "M" Apollo Bio fin at Casino Point last year, give me an e-mail and I'll get it to you!

Phil
