Lost and found:

About 7 years ago I lost a brand new Scubapro speargun at Marineland.
5years ago I lost a Scubapro XQ mask, shotgun snorkle, and UK mask light at Hermosa reef.

About 3 years ago a friend of a friend lost his whole tech set up which included a set of twin tanks,bc,2 regulators, dive computer,etcc.. at the Moody. The guy just bought everything and was use to putting on his gear in the water so he inflated the bc and thew it overboard and it sunk lol "live and learn"

A buddy of mine lost his deco set up at the Moody around the same time which included a aluminum 80,pressure gauge and a Atomic regulator.

Fom all the diving I have done I have never been so lucky to find much of value just a few cheap fishing poles and a old steel 72cu ft tank.

Excuse my ignorance but I do not understand why it did not float? Also How deep is Moody why couldn't any one recover it?

The Moody lies in about 140' with the sand at about 150'. Not a very shallow wreck. Fairly strong currents at times coupled with the fact that items rarely fall straight down through water would probably make the gear hard to find.

I never got the whole story but he must have either not inflated the bc enough or the bc did not have enough lift.

I figured that, I thought it my be a tech thing that i would not have understood.

Re Lost Equipment, I would definitely return it if I knew who it belonged too. Fortunately for myself, I have donated a Reflex fin at North Cresent without a trace; I almost donated a brand new Titanium dive knife at the 'steps' to Casino Point. I was making my way back in when my knife got ripped from my leg and caught on the kelp. Viz was good and I could see it hanging on the kelp below me. I was down to 500 psi so I figured I had enough air to go chasing after it. Once I dropped down, the kelp had shifted and I could not find my knife. I was nearing 200 psi when I was about to give up, and then....fate was with me. I spotted the #)&*@ thing! I grabbed it and surfaced holding it like 'Rambo' alerting my friends that I had found it.

My son had found a hood at Casino point floating in the water while snorkeling.

I found a mask underneath the Goleta Pier during our underwater beach clean up.
The sewage outfall pipe is a good place to get golfballs too. Locals hit golfballs into the water off the cliffs and the longshore current carries the balls to the pipe where the get stuck. Diving under the pier is also good for finding fishing gear and glasses lol

Where do you consistently find "unintentionally donated" scuba equipment underwater? Being a good sport, I'll go first...
1. In the notch at Shaw's Cove; just found a brand spanking new snorkel there last week.
2. Around Seal Rock; the sea lions love to snare people's snorkels, usually with masks attached, and then drop them.
3. In the sand in the middle of Crescent beach, swimming back to Shaw's in 20 - 30' of water after doing Deadman's; don't find much scuba stuff, but find lots of beach towels, shirts, etc. Ditto for the trip back to Shaw's from Divers or Boat Canyon.
4. In the sand in the middle of Shaw's Cove, where few go diving, in 20 - 40 feet of water. I think people drop stuff during entries & exits and the small rip current in the center of the cove carries it out there and dumps it.
5. Just in front of the steps at Casino Point, especially after a weekend of teaching when the Santa Ana's are blowing.

Anyone else have a favorite spot?
well if any one finds my scuba pro mask that i lost at shaws cove let me know

If I respond to this, I won't find as much plunder.
Yeah, it would take half the fun out of diving! I just love surfacing in a crowded quarry and shouting "Damn, where's my Rolex!". :crafty:
