Keep in mind that it was fisherman who caught it. Not marine biologists. It was still alive when they hauled it out.

You still haven't answered one of my first questions...what other giants are you talking about? The only other I know of was the giant squid (archeteuthus) last summer. That was most certainly brought up by a marine biologist, NOT a fisherman. And it is well-documented that it was near death at the surface when they brought it in.

I fail to see the problem, that's enough calamari to feed a whole village.

LOL Not exactly edible, thought. If only it wasn't loaded with amonia, it could solve world hunger. :D

Calamari is gross, Shark fin soup is much better.

It was an increduble LIVE creature and is now a DEAD one.
It is nice to have a trophy......(even if we call it science and studdy it, and then put it in a museum). How many hunters go to Africa yearly to hung big game?

we humans love trophy's, nature of the beast

In my first post I said "intersting OR gigantic".
I made a statement about more than that one squid. After watching the discovery channel and reading magazines throughout the years, there have been plenty of cases where the creatures were removed from there natural habitat, killed and studied, even if it's been studied plenty of times before. It's not just this squid that is being talked about. Do you remember the "strange" shark? Because it was swimming slow people said it was dying. Perhaps it was true. Or perhaps it always swims slow.
