It is perfectly safe here - petty crime being theft is the biggest challange and you just have to be aware and not leave valuables unattended.

Walking all over centro at night for dinner and drinks is perfectly fine!!!

Maybe. I saw horse buggies there a couple of weeks ago.
I was surprised to see them in February. I knew they had been banned in favor of diesel generation of electricity.
 
The horse and buggy guys got some court order stay of enforcing the ban and maybe that court order expired. It's typical BS of the government here - instead of talking with the guys, they have some dog and pony show shutting down the street confiscating the buggies but not the horses....

The part I thought was news worthy was when he threatened the cops that he would have their jobs if they didn't release his drinking buddies and the cops let them go.

That's how the local govmnt operates.
