Is the weight belt worn above or below the harness belt?
Do you mean over the harness or under the harness?

I wear mine under the harness, and it usually rides below the harness belt (lower on my waist). I'm not sure of the true DIR way here (sorry).

Maybe true DIR is the ACB system (http://www.halcyon.net/dir/faq_13.shtml)

under the crotch strap, or have a balanced rig where you need no weight at all.

the acb weight system is not dir that i know of

Balanced rig or under harness for me.

ABC are not DIR

Thanks. I meant vertically on the body - is the harness belt higher on the body than the weight belt or vice versa?

I wear mine lower than my harness waist strap.

I think you mean ACB (Active Control Ballast).

According to my Fundamentals book they are DIR. It recommends them as a means of weighting. Of course, I haven't taken the course yet, but that's what the book says.

Do I have an outdated copy or something?

My DIR-F instructor informed us not to get the ACB system - for numerous reasons. It is a great idea in theory - or perhaps for warm water diving but for cold water - not a good idea.

What *did* he/she recommend?

R..

So why are they not recommended? The DIR-F manual that I have shows them being worn on a DIR diver on page 93 and suggests them as one of several weighting systems. Have they changed their way of thinking on this since this book was printed? What kind of weight belt is most commonly used with a BP/W?
