hi there
off to Hawaii on 9th November for a week... looking for some cheap but not too nasty oceanside accommodation, backpacker/B&B style would be great...

Any offers or information please email me at

Judging by the counter it looks like the big Island...sorry I can't help you there.
I'm sure someone will have some suggestions for you.

thanx a mil.. i am going to Kona... first time in Hawaii and hopefully not the last :D will check out that link.

looking for digs, b&b, house share, tent on the lawn... anything! :)

Aloha Scuba diva :)

The only two fairly decent oceanside accomodations on a budget would be the Kona Tiki and the Islander Inn. Stay away from Uncle Billy's.
Depending on your budget, you may also want to check vrbo.com
http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/region/usa/hawaii/big-island/kona-coast/kailua-kona
If you find any other places during your research, post them here and I'll let you know if they're decent or a roach motel :)

Aloha,
Sam

p.s. I was in Dubai last Christmas and can't wait to go back again. Is it true that Nakheel is going to drop gold bars around the Palm Jumeira as an incentive to get more divers out there?

I actually read it in a Forbes article regarding the gold for divers:
http://www.forbes.com/home/free_forbes/2004/1227/077.html
and here's another page that talks about it:
http://news.mongabay.com/2005/0823-tina_butler_dubai.html
something about a special dive area they're putting together along with wrecks they plan to drop in there.

Here's a google map of the place you asked about:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=76-61...10169,-155.972128&spn=0.017321,0.037875&hl=en

I actually drive that street every day taking my daughter to school.
I grabbed my digital camera this afternoon and took a video clip driving Royal Poinciana from Alii drive along with a photo of the place.
It's at the top of a residential neighborhood but not within walking distance to anything except for a school. You'll definitely need to have a car to get around.
House is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with homes packed in pretty tight in there.
The photo shows 6127B so I'm guessing 6127A is the one to the left behind the trees.
The one bed apartment is probably the Ohana (guest quarters) of the house.

You can see the pic and video here:

You can hear the civil defense on the radio announcing flash flood warnings.. wet day today :)

Aloha,
Sam
