No problem with "horning in". Actually, I'd like to know the answer to your question too. There is a yearly conference in Naples that I attend, and if I can find good diving, I'd like to know about it.
 
The Gulf is not like the Atlantic. The Gulf has a much more gradual slope. Bottom composition is not the same. This results in a couple of differences in diving. The Gulf doesn't generally have coral reefs, although we do see the odd coral growth here & there. One mile off shore Palm Beach you'll be in water deeper than most will care to dive. Twenty miles off shore Naples you'll be in about 60 ft of water. Visibility is usually less in the Gulf, although there are exceptions. Some on the most interesting sites with the best visibility I've ever dived are about 60 miles off shore Naples. I recommend the area for those with a little more than average experience levels.
