Need ID help: What is this weird white appendage the Octopus is grabbing?

My left index finger is in part of the shot, so by comparison, The octopus wasn't much bigger than my hand. The worm wasn't much longer than my forearm, and was much narrower... Nice to hear from you. How've you been?
 
Doing well, Mina. I was out of the water for nearly four months this year but still managed to get in 320 dives so far. Worked with a film crew from Japan to create a one hour documentary on the giant sea bass that aired there on NHK a few weeks ago. Looking forward to some warm water dive travel this winter (Philippines primary destination). Best fishes to you and Mark.
