G'day Alcina -

Accomodation is booked! Went for a run last night with my sister, and of course it was whale shark, manta and diving all the way. Even the kiddiewinkies are excited ('Holiday! Plane!'). You'll be hearing from one of us soon!

It's getting even better! Bigger than Ben Hur. Best mate found about about the trip last night and, hearing that there was only one 3 bedroom unit left, promptly booked it and the flights this morning. Her husband used to be a keen diver but hasn't gone in years, so he's planning on taking a refresher course with one of the other members of the group before we fly out (I'm thrilled by this - I've been nagging him for years to take it up again, as it's obvious he misses it). Her 14 year old son isn't yet certified, but he'll be up for the snorkling part.

She's planning on holding up one end of a local bar, I gather - but has threatened to go fishing!

Two theme songs have already emerged:

Sung to 'Vindaloo':

'Ningaloo!
Ningaloo!
Ningaloo!
Ningaloo Nah Nah!'

And to the Bonnie Doon song from 'The Castle':

'We're going...to Nin-ga-LOO!
We're going...to Nin-ga-LOO!'
(Repeat x 1000)

Don't know if he's interested, but we can do the 14 year old's OW while you are all here and you can even jump on the same boat for his open water dives. He will need to get a medical completed before arriving - I can email a copy of the form if the doctor doesn't have one.

Sounds like you guys are excited!! I'm excited for you and I don't even get to be on holidays!!

I'm going to talk to them about it - I know my friend has always been keen on her son certifying when he was old enough, as she thought it would be a great father-son activity. I took him for his first snorkel when he was five down in our local beach pool - and vividly remember how absolutely thrilled he was when he saw a drab, 10 cm fish in there. Would be a great full-circle sort of thing if we could go from that to whale shark.

Mind if I PM you some questions when I've had a chance to sort through them with Bec? She's keen on mixing some work (WWF) related things in with the trip, and doing some research while she's over there. I gather she's particularly keen on getting some images she can use.

We are ridiculously over-excited (particularly me, as if anyone is going to have to pull out of the trip it'll be me). Some of us have travelled together before in different combinations, but this is the first time for this large a group.

ENJOY THE NINGALOO EXPERIENCE! Great spot, ad relatively untouched by commercialism! Went to Coral Bay a couple of years ago, pre diving me, and had a wonderful time snorkelling... Beauty is, snorkellers can get just as good an experience as divers (in coral bay that is) The mantas are supurb, you'll love it! Check out the Turtle sanctuary aswell, truly beautiful. Have a great trip!

Cheers Melissalee! Thanks for the input on Coral Bay - we're all revved for it. I'm hoping to introduce my nephew to snorkling (or at least paddling around with goggles) at Coral Bay. He's a beach baby - he sleeps with his 'surfboard' (a bodyboard). I'm a manta fiend - my favourite piece of jewelry is a carved ivory palm nut manta necklace I bought in Yap years ago.
