Petrel is always a good choice, or find a used Predator if OLED is a must. I wouldn't use any of the others for the reasons stated. I wouldn't go with an H3 since it's so new. I'll let someone else be that guinea pig. Same for the xDeep.

""allot of information on the Petrel but limited info on the X Deep and even less on the Q""

I think that alone says a lot about the 3 computers. I had the X Deep and moved on to the Petrel 2. Petrel computers are amazing and their costumer service is superb.

What issue(s) did you have with the X Deep?

The X Deep is not a bad computer, but after looking at the Petrel 2 I just like the way the Petrel is designed, how easy the menu/navigation is and how readable the screen is too.
The Petrel also has some features that the XDeep doesn't... A matter of preference.

Why are technical diving computers being discussed in the Basic Scuba section?
Joe OW would be better suited with a simple entry level computer.

The Petrel does actually have a non-technical OC Recreational mode suitable for basic NDL diving. The Petrel may not be an entry level computer, but the OP has over 200 dives so I think it's an excellent choice as long as the OP reads the manual very thoroughly and understands what all the settings mean.

I have just bought a Petrel 2 and although only 4 dives on it to date found it very intuitive to use although some numbers are smaller than the Suuntos that I am used to, it is much simpler to use, especially gas changes.

As a recreational computer it does the job but probably a bit overpriced for that purpose

The Petrel can be an OW basic beginner computer and it does have a non-technical OC Recreational mode suitable for basic NDL diving. . But it can also be an advanced tech computer. With that said I think this discussion is still valid here. The OP has 200 dives and as such I think the Petrel 2 is a great investment for him as it is a computer that can and will very well grow with him/her. Not to mention the fact that their support is superb and they are very good with keeping them up to date.

Water Boy - The OP asked to compare 3 technical type computers - Nitek q, X Deep and Petrel - hence the replies.

I have Shearwater Petrel and am very happy with it. Great computer and customer service from Shearwater is the best I have come across in the dive industry.
