To clarify this was not a combo OW/Nitrox it was an OW where the instructor chose to supply the students with Nitrox. The person I spoke to was a student so she had no idea what the mix was. I saw a statement which said it would be alright as long as there was a hard bottom. The dives were in a quarry and the hard bottom is at 130'. Also the store that ran the class is a PADI 5 star.

If the bottom is at 130', how do they limit OW students to 30' or so? There must be a platform or something. Given that OW students are probably overweighted and might not have the best of buoyancy control, it would be quite risky to do the checkout dives over a 130' bottom. I just can't imagine that being the case.

Since this has you so riled up, why don't you just report it to PADI? Most of the respondents here don't seem to be concerned.

I'm not getting exactly what the issue is. In addition, you add the 130' hard bottom but not the hard bottom where the class was. Why?
