or the other kind of providers?

Heck yeah. I hear you all have the best ICE!!!!

No really, I guess no one looked at my profile. I am an addiction specialists. The job I may agree to take in Hawaii is working with active military and their kin who are experiencing issues related to substance abuse, chemical dependency, and/or other high risk behaviors. This is a 9 to 5 gig. I am not used to those hours. I do the majority of my work in the evening. Since Hawaii contiues to struggle with a Meth problem I was hoping to identify some agencies or offices or clinics on the North Shore so I can do some part time work. In Michigan crack/coke and heroin are our big street drugs (minus the 420 folks). I do not get the opportunity to work with a lot of folks on meth. To me that is a selling point to the move. If I can identify additional work then I most likely will pull the trigger and sign my commitment to the Schofield.

Is there anyone on this board who currently works for any social service providers

call a group named "Habilitat"---they are a drug rehab organization, half-way house and I get all my Christmas stuff (trees, garlands) from them for about five years now. They seem like a great organization, I am sure they could help you. Ask to speak to the director, of course, lol.

Call my friend, Dr Leland Dao (on the north shore) and ask him, he will be very helpful---maybe get his e-mail from the receptionist.

Also, check with the native Hawaiian organizations, they get a lot of funding and have a high incidence of ice problems so there are many programs.

Check with the prisons here.

It, in fact, could take you 40 minutes from Haliewa to Schoefield. That would be an exception but is a very real possibility. That is because it is a two lane road, with no way around that would save you any time. If a bus breaks down, or there is a fender bender, you are simply stuck.

It may be worth it to you to live on the North Shore, though. I wish I could.

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of folks with addiction problems in this state.

On a happier note, I will share something that I was reminded of today by an out-of-state applicant who sincerely desires to move here from CA.

This one of the few cities in America where you can walk down the street and strangers will say "hi" to you or possibly talk to you.

Years back, a friend of mine from NJ, who was used to the hustle and bustle of NYC, said pretty much the same thing and was amazed by it. Also by the pace of things here. Folks generally aren't in so much of a hurry.

Now, I love Hawaii, but I find people much friendlier to strangers in California (well SoCal) We all talk in line at the grocery store, etc. It is much more reserved here, I think. Sometimes people look at me like I am nuts when I strike something up.
